Breakouts are frustrating, but your skin is not failing. It is communicating.
WHAT TO KNOW:
Acne can be influenced by oil production, clogged pores, bacteria, inflammation, hormones, stress, products, makeup, diet, medications, and lifestyle habits. Clear skin usually takes time, consistency, and the right home care. Professional treatments do help, but your daily routine is where the real progress happens.
WHAT MAY BE NORMAL:
• A few small breakouts after extractions
• Temporary redness or tenderness
• Skin looking a little more active before it calms down
• Dryness or mild flaking when starting corrective products
• Breakouts changing location or type as your routine adjusts
• Progress that comes in waves instead of a straight line
PURGING VS. IRRITATION:
Purging may look like small breakouts in areas where you normally break out after starting certain active products. Irritation may feel like burning, stinging, itching, rawness, excessive dryness, or breakouts in unusual areas. If your skin feels irritated, pause active products and focus on barrier repair.
PLEASE DO NOT:
• Pick, squeeze, or dig at breakouts
• Over-exfoliate to “dry them out”
• Start multiple new products at once
• Sleep in makeup
• Use harsh scrubs
• Skip moisturizer
• Skip SPF
• Use random spot treatments from the internet without checking first
HELPFUL HABITS:
• Cleanse gently morning and night, or as recommended
• Moisturize consistently, even if you are oily
• Wear SPF every morning
• Change pillowcases often
• Clean makeup brushes and beauty sponges regularly
• Avoid touching your face throughout the day
• Keep hair products away from acne-prone areas
• Be consistent with your recommended routine
• Take progress photos every few weeks instead of judging your skin daily
WHEN STARTING ACNE PRODUCTS:
• Start slowly
• Use the amount recommended
• Do not layer too many actives at once
• Give products time to work
• Tell me if your skin feels dry, tight, itchy, or irritated
REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS:
Acne improvement can take 8–12 weeks or longer depending on the skin, routine, hormones, and severity of breakouts. Your skin may have ups and downs. That does not mean your routine is not working.
REMEMBER:
Do not bully your breakouts. We are calming inflammation, supporting the barrier, and making a plan. This is why it's called a skin journey- it takes time.
